VOCARE · Feedback and difficult conversations

Rehearse the difficult conversation before you have it.

The failure mode in a hard conversation is almost never harshness. It is fog — so much cushioning that the other person leaves unsure anything was said. You can hear that in a rehearsal. You cannot hear it in your head.

The gap

Kind and clear are not opposites, but they fight in the moment.

Under discomfort most people add qualifiers, bury the point in the middle, and end on reassurance. The result reads as kind and lands as confusing, and the conversation has to happen again.

Rehearsing out loud to something that measures directness alongside warmth lets you find the version that is both.

What gets measured

Weighted for feedback, not for performance.

Directness

Whether the actual message arrived, and where. Softening phrases are located in your transcript, not just tallied.

Warmth

Tone is scored alongside clarity, because the goal is not to be blunter — it is to be understood without damage.

Structure

Whether the point came before the cushioning, and whether the next step was stated or implied.

Pace and pauses

Discomfort speeds people up. You see exactly which sentence you rushed, which is usually the one that mattered.

Closing

Your ending scored and rewritten, so the conversation finishes on an agreed action rather than an apology.

How VOCARE works

Three minutes of speech, one precise read.

You record or upload audio — phone, laptop, no camera, no live interviewer. VOCARE transcribes it, measures how you delivered it, and reads the substance of what you said.

You get scored dimensions with the exact moment behind each number, your own strongest lines quoted back, a rewritten opening and closing, and one priority to carry into the next session. Pattern memory tracks what has actually shifted across your last ten sessions rather than resetting each time.

Pace and rushed segments

Words per minute across the whole recording, plus the specific stretches where you accelerated past the point of landing.

Pauses and silence ratio

Micro, emphasis and dramatic pauses counted separately, with benchmark ranges, because silence is what gives a sentence weight.

Energy arc

How your energy moved from first word to last — building, front-loaded, peaked early, fading — matched to the same curve you can see plotted.

Structure and clarity

Whether your point arrived early, whether the middle held, and whether you closed on a statement or trailed into explanation.

Listener's memory

What a listener would actually retain from the recording, and what quietly fell out. Retention, not grammar.

Questions

Before you record.

Is this appropriate for a performance review?

Yes — it is one of the most common uses. Rehearse what you plan to say for three minutes, and you will see whether your message survives your own cushioning before the other person has to decode it.

Will it tell me to be harsher?

No. Feedback context is weighted for clarity and warmth together. The coaching aims at the version that is unmistakable and still humane.

How much does VOCARE cost?

Your first three sessions are free and no card is required. After that you buy credit packs — one credit per session — starting at $9 for five sessions, $19 for twelve and $39 for thirty. There is no subscription.

What happens to my recordings?

Recordings and reports are private to your account. Nothing is published, shared or used as a public example, and you can delete your account and its history from your profile page at any time.

Have it once in private first.
